Sources, methodology and limitations
Compiled by Extra Virgin Vault from its oil catalog. Weekly snapshots count oil records and distinct producer identifiers; country groups use each oil’s recorded country. A producer represented in several countries can appear in more than one country group.
Availability is the number of oil records marked “available”, divided by all oil records in the selected group. It reflects recorded inventory at the snapshot, not a live stock check. Missing historical values are shown as unavailable; older snapshots may have incomplete inventory coverage.
Average price is the arithmetic mean of positive, numeric per-litre release prices with a supported currency, on oil records marked available. Prices are converted to USD using EVV’s exchange-rate file when metrics are calculated. All qualifying releases can contribute, including older releases; this is not a latest-release-only average. Oils with multiple qualifying releases contribute multiple observations. Missing prices are excluded, and the stored snapshots do not include price sample sizes or the exchange-rate version used.
Dates identify the Monday of the snapshot week, not an exact observation time. Historical snapshots can be reconstructed from repository history. Changes can reflect catalog additions, corrections, inventory updates and currency conversion, as well as price changes. This is an evolving catalog of producer-direct oils, not a representative survey of the olive oil market, sales volumes or market share.
