Te Matuku Grove
Waiheke Island
Visit Website Te Matuku Grove sits on the coastal slopes at the eastern end of Waiheke Island, New Zealand, overlooking Te Matuku Bay Marine Reserve. From bare land in 1999, the owners have restored the site using syntropic permaculture, planting over 3,000 native trees as shelter belts, fruit trees, and an olive grove of 230 trees mainly of Frantoio and Koroneiki varieties. Their spray-free olives are hand-picked and cold-pressed within 24 hours to yield premium extra virgin olive oil. The focus remains on building soil, growing nutrient-dense food, controlling pests, and fostering food forests to boost native bird populations.
