Primo Estate

Primo Estate is a family-owned producer based in South Australia, founded in 1953 by Primo Grilli, who moved from Italy and later planted a vineyard in 1973. The family built a winery in 1979, with Primo’s son Joe taking over as winemaker after studying at Roseworthy. Joe introduced innovative techniques and Italian grape varieties, creating unique wines like the popular Colombard. In the 2000s, the estate moved to McLaren Vale, blending Australian and Italian influences. Today, the next generation—Joe’s children Daniel, Matteo, and Elena—help run the business, continuing the family’s traditions while introducing new products. Primo Estate offers olive oils, wines, and experiences at their McLaren Vale cellar door.
