Olivo is the oldest commercial olive grove in the Wairarapa region of New Zealand, established in 1991 by Robin and Ian Lockie before being purchased by Helen and John Meehan in 2003. The Meehans, who transitioned from corporate careers in Wellington, have expanded the grove to 1,200 trees comprising primarily Barnea, Manzanillo, Leccino, Frantoio and Koroneiki varieties. Their approach combines commercial business expertise with artisanal production methods, resulting in a range of award-winning extra virgin olive oils including both estate blends and single varietals. Olivo has become known for innovation in the New Zealand olive oil industry, particularly through their pioneering work with infused oils featuring flavours such as lemon, fennel, smoked paprika, vanilla, cumin and saffron. The company remains proudly boutique, artisan and 100% New Zealand owned, with a focus on creating premium oils that complement fine food and Martinborough's renowned wines.
