Mia Elia is a family olive-growing project founded in 2019 in Trigonas, in the Plomari district of Lesvos. Four generations of the Hatzidimitriou family have cared for olive groves in the area; the current team includes Panagiotis, Cleo and Eirini Hatzidimitriou and Simos Tagias.
The name means "one olive tree" in Greek. Mia Elia's adoption programme connects customers with an individual tree and the family's annual production, while supporting the project's aim of making the oil's origin and production more transparent.
The family's two groves, Koumaries and Veranda, extend across the hills around Trigonas. Their trees date from the replanting that followed Lesvos's destructive frost of 1850, and the groves are planted mainly with the indigenous Kolovi variety. The family hand-picks from late October to December, takes the fruit promptly to the mill and processes the olive paste at no more than 27°C. The extra virgin olive oil is bottled at Protoulis Olive Mills.
