Kooyong and Port Phillip Estate
Port Phillip Estate, located on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia, is a specialist producer of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir. Owned by the Gjergja Family, who purchased Port Phillip Estate in 2000 and subsequently acquired Kooyong in 2004, the estate operates approximately 40 hectares of vineyards with a strong emphasis on sustainability. The property's architecture features limestone rammed earth walls and a subterranean design, incorporating sustainable practices through natural insulation and minimal environmental disruption.
The estate integrates wine production with hospitality, housing a dining room, cellar door, and accommodation facilities, all oriented around expressing regional terroir. Its approach emphasises sustainability in construction and operations, alongside community engagement. The vineyards benefit from the peninsula's cool-climate maritime proximity, situated approximately 80 kilometres south of Melbourne.
The original Kooyong Estate was founded in the late 1990s by winemaking couple Graeme and Margaret Calvert, with a vision to craft high-quality wines reflecting the peninsula's unique cool-climate terroir. The current team includes Winemaker Tim Perrin, Viticulturist Stuart Marshall, Chef Sam Borley, and Production Manager Marco Vallesi.
The estate acknowledges the Boon Wurrung / Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which it operates, recognising their continued connection to land, waters and community.
