Kleinood Wine Estate

Kleinood Wine Estate, established in 2000 in Stellenbosch, occupies 12 hectares of arable land on Upper Blaauklippen Road. Named “Kleinood” (Afrikaans for “small and precious”), the estate cultivates ten hectares of vineyards and two of olive trees, with the remainder dedicated to wild fynbos, roses, and vegetables. The de Villiers family, rooted in South African viticulture, produces Tamboerskloof wines, named after their former Cape Town suburb where their wine-making journey began. Organic practices prioritise biodiversity, including removing alien plants to support indigenous flora and ecosystems. Alongside Syrah and Viognier wines, de Boerin Extra Virgin Olive Oil – first cold-pressed from estate-grown olives – is produced alongside Verjus and honey. De Boerin also extends to handcrafted perfumes, textiles, and home goods, reflecting Kleinood’s ethos of small-scale, mindful production. A 25-year commitment to heritage and sustainable land stewardship remains central, with the estate’s tasting room open Monday to Saturday.
