Greenleaf Olive Company
The Greenleaf Olive Company, founded in 2005, is a family-owned enterprise based on a 330-hectare olive estate along the Breede River near Swellendam in the Western Cape, one of Southern Africa's most extensive olive groves. The company specialises in producing South African extra virgin olive oil, adhering to international quality standards. Its product range includes Greenleaf EVOO and Saint Sebastian Bay EVOO, both of which have received industry awards. The family-run operation prioritises consistent quality control and traceability, ensuring oils meet rigorous standards. Located in a region renowned for agricultural productivity, the estate leverages its climate and soil conditions to supply premium oils for local and international markets.
The estate is home to 180,000 olive trees across nine different cultivars: Coratina, Barnea, Frantoio, Leccino, Picual, Koroneiki, Arbequina, Arbesona, and Hojiblanca. At full production, the company produces approximately 850,000 litres of Extra Virgin Olive Oil per year.
The farm utilises Colossus mechanical harvesters, each weighing 24 tonnes and capable of harvesting mature trees in under 30 seconds. This enables the team to deliver fruit to the processing plant within an hour of picking. The 1,052 m² state-of-the-art cold extraction facility processes olives within two to three hours of harvest, with all procedures carried out below 28°C to ensure cold-extracted oil of the highest quality. The oil is stored in stainless steel tanks under nitrogen to preserve freshness.
The company's nursery is registered with the National Department of Agriculture and complies with SA Olive Nursery Tree Quality Standards. Bottling uses 100% recyclable glass bottles featuring an innovative pop-up pourer that minimises exposure to light and oxygen, maintaining the oil's quality after opening.
