Georgia Olive Farms was founded in 2009 by five farmers in Southeast Georgia who wanted to bring olive oil production back to the region. In 2011, they achieved their goal by harvesting the first commercial olive crop grown east of the Mississippi River since the 1800s from their groves near Lakeland, Georgia.

The operation is family-run and cultivates Mediterranean olive varieties including arbosana, arbequina, and koroneiki, which thrive in Georgia's climate. They produce extra virgin olive oil that goes from field to their own mill within 24 hours, using only the first pressing of their olives. The company currently offers two varieties of olive oil and has garnered attention from notable chefs, including Georgia native Alton Brown. Beyond their own production, Georgia Olive Farms works to develop the Southeast's olive oil industry by expanding their groves and providing consulting services to other farmers and investors interested in olive cultivation. Georgia now has 16 olive farms encompassing approximately 6,000 acres, positioning the state as second only to California in U.S. olive production.
