Big Basin Vineyards
Big Basin Vineyards, a family winery in the coastal Santa Cruz Mountains, was established in 1998 when its founder saw the property's steep hillsides as ideal for Syrah cultivation. With guidance from viticultural consultant John Alban, a Rhone Ranger, the estate vineyard was developed for a range of varietals forming the foundation of its wines. They practise mountaintop farming in ocean influenced terrain, employing minimal intervention to produce wine that reflects the characteristics of each vintage, vineyard site, and grape variety. Located on a historic site, the operation endured the 2020 wildfires without injury to personnel, highlighting its resilience. The estate also produces a range of EVOO which is released off-season from their wines.
