Baleia Wines & Olive Oil was established in 2009 by the Joubert family on the south coast of South Africa, near St Sebastian Bay—known as the whale nursery of South Africa due to the area's protected waters being a prime breeding ground for southern right whales. Olive groves were first planted in 2008 on limestone-rich soils shaped by a Mediterranean climate featuring cold winters and windy summers.

Baleia's Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Olive Oil is well balanced and displays distinctive aromas of green tomatoes and artichokes, with a hint of lemon freshness. The same mineral-dense limestone soils that shape the olive oil's character also contribute to the distinct chalky minerality and maritime salinity found in Baleia's wines.

Farming practices prioritise the area's unique terroir, including rare Canca fynbos, a plant species adapted to the region's alkaline limestone outcrops, which coexists with agricultural land. The property's focus on sustainable cultivation aligns with its commitment to preserving local biodiversity.
